The Git Diff panel shows changed files for the selected workspace folder or worktree. Use it to inspect what changed before asking an agent to continue, before creating a review artifact, or before switching context. For how agents choose worktrees, see Worktrees.

Panel Controls

The panel includes:
  • A workspace picker. It lists the Task’s workspace folders, their worktrees, and their submodules. Search with “Search branch, workspace, submodule, or path…”.
  • Open workspace in editor and Choose editor, to open the selected folder in an installed editor.
  • A filter box, “Filter files…”, or “Filter submodules and files…” when the folder has submodules.
  • More Git Diff actions (⋯ in the panel header), with Switch to tree view or Switch to list view, and Refresh.
Changed files are grouped into sections: Each file shows a status letter: A added, M modified, D deleted, R renamed, C copied, or ! conflicted. Submodules are listed with a Submodule tag. Differs from parent means the submodule’s checked-out commit is not the one the parent repository records. Clean submodules are hidden behind “Show N clean submodules”. The panel is for reading and editing changes. It has no stage, unstage, revert, or discard actions; use your terminal or editor for those.

Diff View

Click a changed file to open its diff. To see every file in a section as one combined diff, click the diff icon on that section’s heading. The diff toolbar has: Use find in a tile to search a diff. Diffs have no line comments. Comment threads belong to artifacts.

Edit In Place

Click inside the diff of an unstaged or untracked file to edit it there. Deleted files can’t be edited. Changes save automatically shortly after you stop typing. A status label shows Saving, Saved, Unsaved, or Save failed. If the file also changed on disk, the label reads Conflict; choose Use disk to take the file on disk, or Keep mine to keep your edit.

States

The panel and the diff view show explicit states for common cases:

Repository Operations

While a git operation is in progress, a banner above the file list says so:
